Shaw Family Foundation helps recognize effective peacemakers.
Community of Christ is delighted to announce Shaw Family Foundation is the new co-sponsor of the church’s International Peace Award.
The first award presentation by the sponsorship team will kick off Community of Christ’s 2023 World Conference, streamed live at 7 p.m. April 22 on YouTube.com/@CofChrist.
“My family has enjoyed a close relationship with the Community of Christ for more than 50 years, so when President (Steve) Veazey proposed that Shaw Family Foundation consider enabling this award to continue, our board voted unanimously to partner with Community of Christ in presenting the International Peace Award,” said Shaw Family Foundation President Julie Shaw.
The 2023 recipient is Community Peacemaker Teams. For 35 years, CPT has committed to the transforming power of nonviolent activism through partnerships with grassroots peace movements worldwide. CPT’s work aligns closely with Community of Christ’s pursuit of peace and efforts to abolish poverty and end needless suffering.
Each peace award recipient gets a financial gift and a sculpture of two hands holding a clear glass Earth created by Wyoming artist Gail Sundell. The monetary gift is donated to a charitable peace, justice, or environmental organization of the recipient’s choice.
